While the creation of technology has been such a revelation in this world and plays a significant role in my life, I can’t help but feel a sense of angst that comes with it. As much as I am fond of using programs and being immersed in this digital realm, I have my fears about it. The never-ending progression of technology leaves me with a sense of anxiety that I can’t quite understand comes from. The use of working with analog gear remains crucial in my works as I believe the technology that came about in the 70s’ is extremely revolutionary. Understanding the era of this type of technology helps to inform me about the society we live in today. The use of textures has remained important in my works, whether they are man-made or occur in nature it never ceases to excite me. With the use of analog gear, I am able to physically have control of the type of digital textures I create, although the outcome may be uncertain it’s a process I thoroughly enjoy. Working with glass has not only helped me escape the digital anxieties I live with but has exposed me to the mystery of its materiality. Exploring the textures that can be created through the use of glass is quite mesmerizing to me. These two contrasting mediums challenge me differently but surprisingly have some unique parallels between them. This is something I strive to continue to explore.
